Auxiliary Officers
Before acceptance as an Auxiliary Officer, applicants must provide the DKSO with a medical survey from a licensed
physician, verifying that they are in satisfactory health.
Auxiliary Officers are not commissioned with sworn officer status; they do not have law enforcement powers or any authority
granted to them by the DKSO.
Auxiliary Officers need not be Peace Officer certified according to OCGA 35-8-8; however, they may be certified as Detention
Officers, DKSO Communications Officers, or Detention Technicians.
Auxiliary Officers who have not completed the Field Training Officer (FTO), Jail Training Officer (JTO), or Court Training
Officer (CTO) Programs, but have been certified with the State of Georgia as Corrections Officers will be classified as Detention
Officers. They may serve, with limited inmate contact, in the following capacities: community service, tower control,
mail delivery, support services, records retention filing, corridor control, visitation security, and medical department assistants.
Auxiliary Officers must complete the JTO Program for their assigned position.
Auxiliary Officers report to the Reserve Unit chain-of-command and must comply with all policies and rules established
by the Reserve Unit Board of Directors.
