Reserve Deputy Sheriff
Reserve Deputy Sheriff candidates must successfully complete the Peace Officer Standards and Training (P.O.S.T) Council
certification and must have active Peace Officer status as defined by Georgia law (OCGA 35-8-8).
Reserve Unit applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be a high school graduate, or pass the high school equivalency of the General Education Development (GED) Test.
- Be at least 21 years of age for entry as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff, or at least 18 years of age for entry as an Auxiliary
Officer.
- Comply with the qualifications of the DKSO Background and Recruitment Policy for full-time DKSO Deputy Sheriffs.
(Personnel who do not meet these qualifications may apply for Auxiliary Officer position.)
- Successfully complete an oral interview with the Reserve Unit Board of Directors.
The DKSO Background and Recruitment Unit will investigate each applicant. The Sheriff's Reserve Liaison Officer
and the Reserve Unit Commander will review the findings and present them to the Reserve Unit Board of Directors for final
disposition.
The applicant must appear before the Reserve Unit Board of Directors for acceptance. New members must sign an "Official
Oath for Deputy Sheriff" form and will receive public liability protection equal to that of full-time Deputy Sheriffs.
